Empowered to Empower
I’m on a mission to bridge the gap between nutrition and culture for vulnerable populations living in the South. For me this means living a life where I can create a space to have important conversations about public health issues. I believe that these conversations can empower communities and help them overcome the disadvantages caused by systemic practices and policies that, amongst many other things, impact our food systems and health. It is my hope that through my work, I can Empower
underserved populations to manage their health proactively with education and good food. I founded nonprofit, Growing Resilience In The South Inc. (GRITS Inc.), to support me in this mission. GRITS is a nutrition and food advocacy organization that connects emerging registered dietitians with underserved populations looking to improve their food and nutrition literacy to proactively manage and prevent chronic conditions like diabetes and heart disease.
